The tour starts from your hotel, a chance to spend a delightful day out of Rome to visit Umbria, one of the most picturesque regions of Italy rich in vineyards, olive trees and the famous hilltop villages. One of the most famous is Assisi, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mystic town of Saint Francis, surrounded by its ancient walls, was built on the green slopes of Mount Subasio and with its colorful houses of stone, narrow streets, flowering balconies and noble palaces provide beautiful views for memorable pictures (do not forget your camera). An interesting visit to St. Francis Basilica, with its early Renaissance masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue, and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Time for lunch in a typical restaurant (optional) and then the tour continues to Orvieto, where you can admire a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a glistening façade of stained glass, mosaics and sculptures. Soak up Orvieto’s charm and explore the city center and then Back to Rome.

The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is located 4 km from Assisi. Inside the Basilica there is the Porziuncola Chapel; the place most loved by Saint Francis and where God granted him special graces. Initially, the Porziuncola was an ancient chapel, surrounded by a small portion of forest (hence perhaps the name) belonging to the Benedictines of the Monastery of S. Benedetto del Monte Subasio. Having remained abandoned for a long time, it was restored by Francesco who rented it from Abbot Teobaldo. After the death of the Saint, some permanent buildings arose around the church: the friars' choir, various small oratories and then a small convent. In the second half of the 1500s Pius V ordered the construction of a large basilica that would enclose and protect the Porziuncola and welcome the crowds of pilgrims who continually flocked there.
The Basilica of Santa Chiara is a religious building, built in neo-Romanesque style, located in Assisi. The basilica is among the most famous in Italy and one of the most beautiful in Umbria. The church marks not only the historic center of the city but also a significant place from an artistic and cultural point of view. The Basilica of Santa Chiara was built by the Benedictine monks, who had the desire to honor Santa Chiara, born Agnese in 1194 and died on 13 September 1253. Currently, together with the Porziuncola, the Eremo delle Carceri, the Chiesa Nuova and the Basilica of San Damiano, the Cathedral of San Rufino and obviously the Basilica of San Francesco, is one of the centers where the pilgrimage to Assisi is concentrated.
