Pickup included
Delve into the depths of Greek history, Ancient Macedonia, and the era of Alexander the Great. Participants will engage in a hands-on experience, wielding the most famous weapon of Alexander's army, which dominated ancient battlefields for over three centuries. We will explore the training of a Macedonian Phalangite (Pikeman) of the Hellenisitic Period (4th-2nd Century BCE) using the famous Sarissa pike. The presentation will include: 1) Introduction to the description of the sarissa as a weapon. What parts does it consist of, how many meters was it during different historical periods, what materials were its different parts made of, how effective was it on the field of battle 2) the practice of each person in the basic use of the Sarissa teaching the holding method, the body position, the ancient martial orders, the proper pacing in the field, the proper holding of the shield. 3) Τest of the use of the Sarissa wearing historically correct high quality reconstructed military equipment of the Hellenistic period (linen armor - linothorax, various types of helmets, phalangite shield, etc) 4) time for photography of the participants using the reconstructed equipment.

The two possible meeting points, are the ones where the BUS Station is (Interurban bus station - KTEL Florinas) and the nearby Train Station is (Florina Customs, Sidirodromikou Stathmou). Florina is easily accessible from Thessaloniki, with regular KTEL bus and train services (approximately 3 hours). Additionally, car rental from Thessaloniki is an option, providing a journey of about 2 hours and 10 minutes.
