‘Tenugui’ is a type of traditional Japanese hand towel made from bleached thin cotton cloth with the size of about 35cm wide x 90cm long. There are so many varieties in term of pattern, color and also usage such as for wiping, covering, wrapping, display and etc. In recent years, Tenugui is popularized as an interior item or a piece of fashion accessory.

The dyeing technique called the ‘Chusen’ technique has been used for mass production. Those ‘yukata’ (summer kimono) and/or tenugui which use ‘chusen’ dyeing technique are being known as ‘Tokyo honzome’, especially in Kanto area. (*)Naga-ita (long board) chugata (mid-size stencil) zome (dyeing). You will learn how to do this exquisite technique and dye your own tenugui!

We offer Full course about Chusen-Dyeing Tenugui. Professional instructor, craftsman, artisan in Chusen-Tenugui provide endless support to all participants. Therefore, anyone can enjoy dyeing your very own piece of Tenugui. - You can create wonderful memories with your friends. - You can create, hand-made Tenugui as a great piece of gift. - You can convey the expression of art by Tenugui. Please feel free to join workshop!! We have 2 types of duration for the experience to suit your preference. Basic Course: This is a 2 hours course of towel dyeing experience. Design changes on monthly basis and professor teaches you the design of the month. You will experience the manufacturing process of how craftman actually does, such as dyeing a design partly by using various colors, washing technique to clean off the color, and more. Full Course: This is a 3 hours course where you will experience the dyeing process in detail. You will choose one from two designs and dye in your favorite color, and make your original towel!
