The DC-3 airplane at Eyvindarholt is a fascinating stop on our South Coast Tour, steeped in history. This aircraft, which first took flight in 1944, served the United States Navy at the Keflavík naval base during the 1960s. It played a vital role in transporting people and supplies to the radar station on Heiðarfjall mountain in Langanes, near Þorshöfn in northeast Iceland.
