The Giza Pyramid Complex, also called the Giza Necropolis, is the site on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt that includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also includes several cemeteries and the remains of a workers village. The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 kilometers (8 mi) southwest of the city center of Cairo
Pyramids of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza (Pyramid of Khufu): The largest and oldest of the three, built around 2560 BCE. It was originally 146.6 meters tall (now 138.5 meters) and was the tallest man-made structure for over 3,800 years. The Pyramid of Khafre: Slightly smaller but appears taller due to its elevated location. It retains some of its original casing stones at the top. The Pyramid of Menkaure: The smallest of the three, standing about 65 meters tall.
Khafre's Pyramid
Khafre's pyramid complex includes a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king's pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre, some of which were discovered in a well in the temple's floor by Mariette in 1860.
