Nieuwmarkt is a district in Amsterdam known for its vibrant markets and happening nightlife scene. Located in the old city centre, it has been the commercial and socializing hub in the city since the 17th century. Nieuwmarkt is full of life at all times of the day. During the daytime, you can enjoy a leisurely meal and soak in the sun at one of the terrace restaurants or indulge in shopping. The daily markets held here draw innumerable tourists as well as locals. There is also a special market for organic food items and more that is put up on Saturdays. What’s more, the district is also a popular nightlife jaunt courtesy the many cafes and bars here. Some of the most famous ones are Café Cuba, 't Tuinfeest, Café Fonteyn and Temple Bar Irish Pub.
