Skip the usual traps in Old Delhi and explore its deepest historical points with us, "Kashmiri Gate" is one of them. Kashmere gate was original gates of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s mid-17th century imperial capital Shahjahanabad (presently OLD Delhi). The gate was located close to river Yamuna and the region around it became a site of recreational gardens and country houses built by the members of the royal family and courtiers. This area is full of Heritage buildings, British era Churches, cemeteries & Mughal Era Mosques. At the end we will also be taking you the usual old Delhi for a photo stop.

Itinerary

Qudasia Park

You will be picked up from your hotel in Delhi & taken to Kashmiri gate. Our first stop will be “Qudasia Bagh”, a Charbagh mughal garden outside Kashmiri Gate which was built by Qudsia Begum, mother of Emperor Ahmed Shah. We move on to The Fahkr-ul-masjid was built by Kaniz-i-Fatima in memory of her husband Shujaat Khan, a nobleman in Aurangzeb’s court.

Kashmere Gate Monument

Moving on to our next Stop, Built in 1836, St James Church is one of the oldest Churches in New Delhi. St. James’ Church holds the fame of being the first church in Delhi. Shining in Golden Yellow, this humble abode still stands with pride. It is said that this church holds an imitation of the churches in Venice; may be because for its dome architecture. We may stop for a while for photostop at Ruined British Magazine, The magazine was a large compound with several buildings where gunpowder and ammunition were manufactured and stored by the East India Company before the Rebellion in 1857. Next is “Lothian Cemetery” which was the main burial ground of the Christian population of Delhi killed during this period. Kashmiri Gate also suffered extensive damage and was left in its ruined state as a symbol of the Mutiny. Cannon-ball marks on the walls adjoining Kashmiri Gate. Kashmiri Gate was heavily bombarded by British artillery positions on the high Northern Ridge.

Pasar Chandni Chowk

Tour ends outside the “Red fort” in Famous “Chandni Chowk” area, where you will enjoy a short bicycle rickshaw ride into the lanes of Chandni chowk, you pass through the glittering shops and surging crowds of shoppers. To conclude, you will be driven back to your hotel in Delhi.
