The Basilica of San Simplicio in Olbia is the most important and oldest religious monument in northeastern Sardinia and a testament to the spread of Christianity on the island. It was a cathedral until 1839, a parish church since 1955, and was granted the title of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1993. It is dedicated to San Simplicio, the city's first bishop and martyr under Emperor Diocletian.
The building is located in the upper part of the historic center and was built on the ruins of a Roman-era pagan temple, possibly dedicated to Hercules. Originally dedicated to the Conversion of Saint Paul, it was the only parish church in Olbia until 1954, when the ancient Basilica of San Simplicio was reopened.
Fausto Noce Park is the green lung of the city. With eighteen hectares of greenery, it was named the second best green project in Italy in 2005.
