Optional Activity Marble House is a stunning Gilded Age mansion located on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. Built between 1888 and 1892 for Alva and William Kissam Vanderbilt, it was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt in the grand Beaux-Arts style. When completed, it was considered one of the most opulent homes in America. Its striking temple-front portico resembles that of the White House, and its exterior features elegant white Westchester marble with French neoclassical details. Today, Marble House is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public as a museum operated by the Newport Preservation Society.
