Torre de Belem
The construction of the Portuguese empire required that the entrance to the Tagus be properly protected and ensure military rhetoric translated into an effective and dissuasive defense system. Its grandeur and importance should have been enough to send a clear signal to the other European powers and their fleets that the river was protected and under control. In this way, under the direction of King D. João II, the defense of the mouth of the Tagus river was organised. Parque Eduardo VII
Opened in 1882, this park, originally called Parque da Liberdade, is located opposite Avenida da Liberdade.
