Itinerary

Cabo Espichel

At Cabo Espichel is located the complex of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cabo Espichel – Church of Our Lady of Cabo, Hermitage of Memory, House of the Candles, Square at Cabo Espichel, Cross, Water House, and Aqueduct at Cabo Espichel."

Castelo de Sesimbra

The origins of Sesimbra Castle date back to the 9th century, during the period of Muslim occupation of the territory. In 1165, it was conquered by King Afonso Henriques, but in 1191 it was lost to the Almohads. Its definitive reconquest was carried out by King Sancho I in 1199, who granted the first charter to the village of Sesimbra, which at the time was located within the castle walls. Throughout the Middle Ages, due to its strategic importance in defending the kingdom’s maritime and land borders, the castle underwent numerous expansions

Serra da Arrabida

The meeting of the mountains and the sea gave rise to a stretch of fine-sand beaches with crystal-clear waters that one would expect to find only in the Mediterranean, such as Figueirinha, Galapos, and Portinho da Arrábida. This region was favored by Franciscan friars who, between the 16th and 19th centuries, lived in the still-standing Convent and meditated in the secluded chapels scattered throughout the Serra. Arrábida offers excellent conditions for agriculture and livestock farming, resulting in high-quality local products. Among the highlights are the wines, which you can explore by following the Blue Coast Wine Route. This route takes you to the charming village of Azeitão, where you can taste some delicious cheeses."
