The Atomic Bomb Dome, originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, stands as a symbol of peace and a reminder of the devastating atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. It is one of the few structures left standing near the bomb’s epicenter and has been preserved in its ruined state to promote nuclear disarmament and global peace efforts. Today, it forms part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park offers travelers a chance to witness the iconic Atomic Bomb Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can explore the Peace Memorial Museum, which showcases the devastating impact of the atomic bomb and Hiroshima's recovery. The park also features tranquil spaces like the Memorial Cenotaph, the Children's Peace Monument, and the Flame of Peace.
Next, return to the van and travel to catch the ferry to Miyajima Island. Miyajima Island is famous for its giant floating torii gate at Itsukushima Shrine, which appears to float during high tide. The island combines stunning natural scenery with cultural significance, being regarded as a sacred place where the entire island is considered divine. It is a popular destination for both its beauty and spiritual importance.
