The Piazza dei Miracoli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Pisa, offers much more than the iconic Leaning Tower. This remarkable square is home to the Baptistry of St. John, Italy’s largest baptistry, blending Romanesque and Gothic styles. The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, founded in 1064, features a harmonious mix of Romanesque, Arabic, Byzantine, and Mediterranean influences, with its stunning mosaic of Christ in Majesty surviving a 1595 fire. The Monumental Graveyard (Camposanto) boasts tombs, chapels, and a tiled cloister, undergoing restoration after WWII damage. The Sinopie Museum showcases original fresco sketches and details the restoration process. Described as “one of the finest architectural complexes in the world,” this square rewards deeper exploration!
