Itinerary

Uros Floating Islands

Ready for something unique? Head out to the Floating Islands, where the ground beneath you is made entirely of tightly woven totora reeds. It feels like walking on a soft, springy surface—definitely a one-of-a-kind experience! On your first stop, you’ll get a firsthand look at how the islands are built. The locals will explain the traditional techniques they use, and you’ll get to see how they’ve made this way of life work for centuries. You’ll even be invited into their homes to see what daily life is like on the islands. And if you're up for it, you can dress like the locals (optional and fun experience). The Uros people are friendly, so feel free to take photos or videos to remember the moment. They love sharing their story and culture with visitors. Want to see the lake from a new angle? Hop on a traditional totora reed boat, known as the "Balsas de totora." It’s a cool way to glide across the water and really get a sense of the floating islands (optional, 20 soles p/p)

Through their weaving, the locals form a deep connection to their heritage, with each stitch telling a story of the island's traditions, social structures, and community life. During your visit, take a leisurely stroll around the island to fully immerse yourself in its scenic beauty. Embark on a brief 30-minute trek from the Taquile Port to the main square, navigating a charming uphill path.
