Snow-capped Chimborazo is located in its namesake province in the town of Riobamba. This is the highest mountain in Ecuador and the furthest point from the center of the earth, meaning that Chimborazo is the closest point on Earth to the sun.
We depart from Baños at 8:30 a.m., traveling about three hours in private transportation that allows you to witness indigenous crops, flocks of sheep, vicuñas and typical houses of adobe and straw. Upon arrival at the first station, after registering, we continue on to the first benchmark at 4800 meters above sea level. At this elevation, it is important to acclimatise in order to continue on the trek to the second base located at 5041 meters above sea level. Just a short 10 minute walk from the second stop in the ascent, you can see a lagoon located just steps from the glacier. The descent is then about 40 minutes, after which we will have the lunch. Finally we will return to the vehicle to return to the town of Baños.
