Lucca is a medieval town, renowned to tourists because of its preserved medieval historical centre, its medieval walls and the numerous cultural attractions.
The Walls of Lucca are an impressive Renaissance fortification that surrounds the city's historic center. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries for defensive purposes, they are now one of Lucca’s most iconic landmarks and among the few completely intact city walls in Europe. Wide and tree-lined, they offer a scenic 4 km pedestrian path, perfect for walks and moments of relaxation.
Piazza Anfiteatro is one of the most picturesque squares in Lucca, known for its unique elliptical shape, which follows the perimeter of the ancient Roman amphitheater from the 2nd century AD. Over the centuries, the amphitheater's structures were transformed into buildings, creating the charming square that today hosts cafés, restaurants, and shops, making it one of the city's most iconic landmarks.
