Our walk in Tartu will create a dialogue to share interpretations and to express a deeper story that might usually go unseen for both locals and visitors. Together we will uncover narratives that are expressed through the designed characteristics found throughout the city, while also creating new interpretations on what we perceive.

The tour is in English and is a two-hour long walk that explores the hidden layers of Tartu's culture. Participants will experience a truly unique and meaningful perspective on the process of interpreting and unraveling the city's hidden meanings.

Itinerary

Monument to Juri Lotman

This stop of the tour includes the following objects: Monument of Juri Lotman at the university library, mural of "The Emperor's New Clothes" on Struve Street, and the home of Jakob von Uexküll, the founder of biosemiotics.

The second location is at Kassitoome on the slope overlooking the Cathedral and tennis courts. Here we will discuss the ecosemiotics, nature, and components related to nature-based design.

The third stop is at the Cathedral ruins and the park section of Toome Hill on the north side of the church. At this location we will talk about the monuments of: Kristian Jaak Peterson, Willem Reiman, Karl Ernst von Baer, Area Morgenstierana, Lohukivi and Musumägi).
