Pyramids of Giza

The Giza Pyramid Complex, often referred to as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in the Greater Cairo area of Egypt. This iconic archaeological site includes the renowned Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, each accompanied by their respective pyramid complexes and the legendary Great Sphinx. These ancient structures were built during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty, dating back to approximately 2600–2500 BC. Positioned at the edge of the Western Desert, the complex lies about 9 kilometers west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and approximately 13 kilometers southwest of downtown Cairo. Due to its historical significance, the Giza Plateau was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is the most iconic and well-known of its kind. Carved directly from the natural limestone bedrock during Egypt’s 4th Dynasty (around 2613–2494 BC), it is also the oldest known sphinx in existence. In ancient Egyptian culture, sphinxes symbolized the pharaoh, combining the head of a king with the powerful body of a lion to represent strength, authority, and divine kingship.
