Itinerary

Longqing Gorge

Longqing Gorge which claims a reputation as the "north three gorge" is a famous water dam in a suburban village of Beijing. A trip to the gorge is one of the most popular weekend pastime for locals in Beijing. LongQing Gorge is well known for its scenic canyon landscape. A reservoir flooded the canyon after construction of nearby Longqing Dam. The mountain and river vistas are reminiscent of other famous landscapes in China. It is variously given the names "Little Three Gorges" for resembling a "microcosm of the Yangtze River's fabled Three Gorges" or "mini Li River" for its "narrow peaks and dramatic rock faces" recalling the Li River in Guilin. The prime attraction for tourists visiting the scenic area is a 15-minute open top boat cruise along the bottom of the Longqing Gorge. A cable car takes visitors up to a mountain peak. There is a 258-metre (846 ft) yellow dragon-shaped escalator to bring visitors to the top of the Longqing Dam.

Guyaju Caves

Guyaju Caves are the ruins of a cave complex that may have served as dwellings for a fortified community situated in a valley near Beijing. The origins of the community are mysterious due to uncertainty about the founding people and later disappearance of the community. The settlement may have been established by a tribe belonging to Liao Dynasty(950AD). But there are no clear answers as to the history of the caves with the historical literature stressing "its origins are a continuing archeological cipher. The dwellings and worship hall are hewn from the rock face of cliffs. The cave rooms are packed close to each other and in some places are cut at different levels of the same cliff face, giving the appearance of a multistory building. There are 350 chambers inside of the complex's 117 caves. A Chieftain's Palace is located at the bottom of one of the rock faces of the complex. This more elaborate residence has 8 rooms and is supported by columns cut from the rock.
