The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the former residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782, from King Rama I to King Rama V of the Rattanakosin Kingdom. The king, his court, and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. Today, the place is used for hosting royal ceremonies and welcoming the king's guests, state guests, and other foreign dignitaries. It is also a place where the remains of kings and high-ranked members of the royal family were situated before cremation.
The Memorial Bridge is a bascule bridge over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand, connecting the districts of Phra Nakhon and Thonburi. This bridge was also part of the bombing of Bangkok in World War II, a force of B-29 Superfortresses, in a test of their capabilities before being deployed against the Japanese home islands, targeted the bridge. The bridge used to have a double-leaf bascule-type lifting mechanism, which is now unused.
