In this tour we will visit the wonderful town of Alberobello (also known as the city of trulli) and Matera
Alberobello was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996 because it is an exceptional example of building construction with prehistoric techniques that have survived intact and are still functioning in the modern world.
A "Trullo" is in fact a small limestone house, made with dry stone walls, roughly worked limestone blocks collected from nearby fields and topped with a conical roof. Souvenir shops, B&Bs, bars and restaurants will brighten up your stay in Alberobello.
Matera is the city of the Sassi, the original urban nucleus, developed from natural caves dug into the rock and subsequently modeled into increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheatres that are the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano.
