With over five generations having lived here, you'll learn about the fascinating use of the geothermal valley in their day to day lives. From bathing to cooking and heating their homes, the geothermal wonders aren't just a spectacular sight. Whakarewarewa Village is also home to the famous Pohutu and Prince of Wales Feathers geysers, so keep an eye out to watch them burst with plumes of steam. Make sure to catch the Maori Cultural Performance Show, where you can witness the powerful and sacred Haka as well as stories, song and dance that play an important role in the Maori culture.
- An afternoon tour is usually not as full as a morning tour.
- Pre-book the Cultural Performance (especially during the NZ summer months) as numbers are limited.
- On a cold & rainy day the village has a mystical feeling about it as the rain & the cold hitting the geothermal creates clouds of steam making you feel like your walking into another dimension.
