This Walk covers some well known sites of Chennai while walking thro' one of its oldest areas. On this Walk, you can: -Visit the St. Thomas Church built over the tomb of an apostle & pay reverence to his relic; -Watch devout hindus pray at the 7th CE Kapalishwara temple; -Awe at the temple towers adorned with polychromatic & intricate carvings of various Hindu deities; -Soak in the sights, smells & sounds of the fruits, flowers & vegetable market; -Understand the basic tenets of Jainism which is older than Buddhism; -Navigate thro' streets filled with old houses, residents, children, small shops, eateries, etc. which establish the antiquity of the place; -Understand why India is such a strong spiritual destination by visiting the Ramakrishna Math; (1) Please wear clothes so as to cover your legs & shoulders. (2) Try & wear sandals since we have to remove footwear multiple times. (3) Please note morning & afternoon Walks are in opposite directions to go with the direction of sunlight.

San Thome Church

St. Thomas Church, also known as San Thome Church, is a historic church located in Chennai, India. Built over the tomb of Saint Thomas the Apostle, this magnificent church is a testament to the enduring legacy of Christianity in India. The church's rich history dates back to the 1st century AD, when Saint Thomas arrived in India to spread the Gospel. He established seven churches along the western coast of India, including the San Thome Church. After his martyrdom in 72 AD, the church was built over his tomb. The church's stunning neo-Gothic architecture, beautiful relics, and rich history make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exploring the cultural and spiritual heritage of India. The church's annual festival, held in December, is a grand celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of India. Thousands of devotees from all over the world flock to the church to participate in the festivities.

Kapalishwara Temple, located in the heart of old Chennai, is one of the oldest and most revered Shiva temples in India. The temple's rich history dates back to the 7th century AD, during the Pallava dynasty. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Kapalishwara, the destroyer of evil. The temple's stunning architecture is a blend of Pallava and Dravidian styles. The temple's gopuram, or entrance tower, is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures of various Hindu deities. The temple's sanctum sanctorum houses a magnificent lingam, which is believed to be self-manifested. Kapalishwara Temple is also famous for its sacred tank, which is believed to have healing properties. Devotees from all over the world visit the temple to take a dip in the tank and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. The temple's vibrant festivals and rituals, including the annual Brahmotsavam, attract thousands of devotees and tourists alike.
