The Ruins of St. Paul is a famous interesting place in Macao. The Ruins of St. Paul's were initially built in 1602. In 1835, a fire razed the church, leaving only the dramatic facade standing in four colonnaded tiers, complete with carvings and statues. Today, the Ruins of St. Paul's is a symbol of Macao.
Located right beside the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Mount Fortress was once the city’s main military defence structure, crucial in fending off the Dutches during the attempted invasion of Macau in 1622. The fortress was built by the Jesuits between 1617 and 1626 and has been demilitarised in 1976. Mount Fortress is part of the Historic Centre of Macao, listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
The Section of the Old City Walls are the remains of a wall that surrounded the colonial city of Macau, in Portuguese Macau, in the 16th and 17th centuries. The wall's construction is unique because it was built of clay, sand, rice straw, rocks, and oyster shells.
