This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Gabriela comes from an Italian family. She learned to cook from her grandfather Ricardo, Tango Quintet Director and a Bandoneon player. She then furthered her knowledge under the Italian chef, Mario Maiollino when she ran her own restaurant, Ozono, in Buenos Aires. She is currently an art director and fashion photographer, and worked and lived in Brazil for many years. Gabriela also enjoys traveling and says it always helps her improve her cooking skills and knowledge. You will make few dishes such as focaccia with salami, mini provoleta (gooey cheese), empanadas de carne tucumanas and carbonada (beef stew). You will end your meal with a dessert, budín de pan con canela y dátiles con dulce de leche (bread pudding with dates) or arrollado se dulce de leche (roll filled with dulce de leche), along with some tea or coffee.
This is the perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. A Porteño, passionate about sharing her love for Argentinian food, Gabriela learned to cook from her grandfather (a Tango Quintet director) and even owned a restaurant. Join Gabriela in her modern kitchen for a hands-on Argentinian cooking class that lasts about an hour. Learn to make 2-3 dishes such as empanadas or carbonada (traditional Argentinean beef stew, which, true to tradition, is served inside a pumpkin), and a dessert. After cooking, sit down together to enjoy your authentic Argentinian meal over laughter and conversation about life in Buenos Aires! Gabriela is an accomplished cook and can accommodate vegetarians or others with special diets. The menu varies seasonally and your meal includes wine or beer. If you choose the market tour option, walk 10 minutes together with Gabriela to Mercado San Telmo, a large and famous San Telmo landmark! The market has stalls selling everything from meat, cheese and produce to spices and antiques. Gabriela gives you an hour-long walking tour of this lively, local market during which you will purchase ingredients for your cooking class.
