Corfu Old Town

Our tour of Corfu begins at the Durrells spot. Town Hall square and theatre of San Giacomo. Esplanade square. Liston buildings surrounding it makes the place reminiscent of Rue De Rivoli in Paris. Old Byzantine Fortress of Corfu, that was built in the 6th cent ΑD, reinforced in the years of Venetian rule. Boschetto garden is dedicated to the famed authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell. Palace of St. George and St. Michael was built in the years of the British protectorate. It is an elegant regency style building with an ionic peristyle, overlooking the garden. Campielo area is the oldest most authentic part of Corfu. We’ll pass through narrow alleys with Italianate houses, small squares and picturesque churches. New fortress of Corfu. Built in the 16th. cent, it serves as an impressive example of Italian defensive architecture. The area around the fortress is quite charming with the Tenedos church, the traditional old houses and the old Jewish neighborhood.

Mouse Island

The location of Kanoni with the church of Panagia Vlacherna below and the Mouse Island (Pontikonisi) are the most famous and photographed spots of Corfu. Kanoni is actually a district of Corfu Town, just a couple of kilometers from the city center. It took its name from an old cannon that stands on top of the hill. This hill is lush green and has many luxurious hotels and local residences.
