Preveli Beach, also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix, is a stunning destination at the end of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge, where the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) meets the sea. It is one of the most famous beaches in South Crete and welcomes thousands of visitors every summer. In the 1960s and 1970s, it was a popular spot for hippies.

Lush Theophrastus palm trees grow along the riverbanks, creating a tropical atmosphere. This is the secondlargest palm forest in Crete, after Vai. The river forms a small lake about 500 meters long before flowing into the sea. You can walk along the river under the shade of the palm trees or explore the beautiful canyon. At the river’s exit, the beach has a mix of pebbles and sand, and on the eastern side, there is a rock shaped like a heart. Here, you will have plenty of time to swim in the turquoise waters, relax in the sun, and enjoy the unique scenery. The bus will drop us off at the nearest parking area, surrounded by tall cliffs—perfect for taking amazing photos. To reach the beach, we follow a footpath with about 300 steps, which takes around 15 minutes. After about 4 hours of free time, we will return to the bus and head back to your hotel.
