Immerse yourself in the beauty of Japanese calligraphy with this hands-on cultural experience in the heart of Osaka. You can choose to write your name in Japanese kanji (with help in selecting meaningful characters), or select a symbolic kanji such as “peace”, “dream”, “strength”, or “love” that resonates with you. In this class, you’ll learn about the basic techniques of shodo (Japanese calligraphy) using traditional tools like brush, ink, and hanshi paper. After practicing, you’ll create your final piece, which will be mounted and ready to take home as a unique souvenir. We also offer wooden ema (votive tablets) to display your art in a traditional way. Our classroom is conveniently located between Dotonbori and Kuromon Market, making it a perfect stop during your Osaka adventure. Families with children are very welcome – we have a kid-friendly space designed by a certified nursery school teacher, so little ones can enjoy their time too. The instructor is a professional calligraphy artist whose works have been exhibited and sold in Italy and Australia, and is passionate about sharing this art form with visitors from around the world.
