Inaugurated at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900, it spans the Seine and links Les Invalides and the Grand Palais on the right bank to the Champs-Élysées district on the left bank. The Alexandre III bridge is distinguished by its elegant architecture and artistic decorations. It is adorned with sculptures, elaborate lampposts, gilded nymphs and artistic details, representing a Belle Époque aesthetic. The four stone columns marking the ends of the bridge are surmounted by bronze statues of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology.
