St. Louis Cathedral
Overlooking the crescent bend of the Mississippi River, the St. Louis Cathedral is the spiritual heart of New Orleans.
Faulkner House Books
Faulkner lived here for six months, sharing the building with artist William Spratling. The two got up to all sorts of mischief in the French Quarter, firing BBs at pedestrians and brewing bathtub gin while they composed “Sherwood Anderson and Other Famous Creoles,” a satirical work based on the 1920s literary scene.
Old Absinthe House
The Old Absinthe House was builtin 1806 to house an importing firm, and for forty years it continued to function as a place of trade, bartering food, tobacco, and liquor.

Meeting Points
- The best place to start our tour is on the stairs across Decatur Street from famous Jackson Square. A short cab, Lyft, or Uber ride will take you to the Square from anywhere in the city. Or if you are staying in the Quarter, it should be a reasonable walk.
End Points
- Café du Monde, or “Café of the World,” is a traditional coffee shop, which specializes in beignets and café au lait. This is the last stop of our tour. To return to the starting point walk southwest down Decatur for a half of a block.
