Dover Castle Rising above the famous White Cliffs high above the Channel, Dover Castle is an icon of England. Built soon after 1066, this mighty fortress has been the site of royal intrigue and epic sieges, and was at the centre of the crucial effort to evacuate hundreds of thousands of Allied troops from the beach of Dunkirk.

Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, Canterbury Cathedral is a unique place of worship, a major pilgrimage destination, a masterpiece of art and architecture, and one of the UK's most-visited historic sites. Often referred to as 'England in stone. The architecture of the Canterbury Cathedral is the result of the fusion between two architectural styles: the Romanesque style and the Perpendicular Gothic style. Defined by the completely rounded arches, the Romanesque style was used in the eastern side of the cathedral including the nave and part of the quire. The cathedral boasts some of the finest church architecture in the country, built from stone imported from Caen in Normandy. A church and cathedral has stood on the site for over 1,400 years. The first Archbishop of Canterbury was St Augustine who arrived in Kent as a missionary in 597 AD.
