Travel from Hobart to Launceston in 1 day via Wineglass Bay & Freycinet National Park. An action packed day tour, with sensational scenery, Great Short Walks, and many scenic stops along the way.

Departing Hobart, we travel via the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea as we make our way to Freycinet National Park. As we enter the Freycinet area, we have a brief stop at Freycinet Marine Farm famous for their fresh local oysters.

Our main walk today is to the Wineglass Bay Lookout; this is a moderate uphill walk of around 60 minutes. Once at the top you are rewarded with that world famous view of Wineglass Bay and the surrounding Freycinet National Park. For our keen and active travelers, you can continue on the longer walk down to Wineglass Bay beach. Or, return to the trailhead with our guide and explore the other highlights of the area, Honeymoon Bay and the Cape Tourville Lighthouse and great short walk.

Hobart

We depart Hobart heading east then following the coastline north. We travel through the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea as we make our way to Freycinet National Park. Freycinet is one of Tasmania’s first National Parks, famous for its rich and stunning coastal landscapes. Pink Granite Mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife, and amazing walking trails.

Freycinet National Park

As we enter the Freycinet area, we have a brief stop at the Freycinet Marine Farm for anyone interested in the local oysters’ fresh from the surrounding pristine waters.

Wineglass Bay Lookout

We walk as a group to the Wineglass Bay Lookout; this is a moderate uphill walk of around 60 minutes. Once at the top you are rewarded with that world famous view of Wineglass Bay and the surrounding Freycinet National Park. Enjoy the moment, take in the views, and let our tour guides help you with those sought-after photographs. The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and requires good mobility and adequate fitness. It is 1.3 km uphill, before returning downhill.

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • Minimum age to participate in tour is 8 years
  • A small amount of walking is involved; a suitable level of general health & fitness and physical abilities is essential
  • We provide accurate interpretation, and keep wildlife disturbance to a minimum by viewing from appropriate distances and informing our guests how to view wildlife with patience and respect. Activities are always confined to tracks and boardwalks to minimize negative impacts.
  • Hotel pickup time is between 7 AM and 7:30 AM depending on your location. Hotel pickup is available from select central city Hotels and Hostels ( no AirBnB’s). Please arrange pickup from your hotel at least 48 hours prior to departure with the tour operator.
  • Each traveller is allowed a maximum of 1 suitcase and 1 carry-on bag. Oversized or excessive luggage (e.g. surfboards, golf clubs or bikes) may have certain restrictions, please inquire with the operator prior to travel to confirm if your excess luggage is acceptable.

Meeting Points

  • Our General Meet Point is the Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre at 20 Davey Street. The pickup time is 7:25am, be ready at 7:20am. The tour returns to Launceston around 6.00pm. Hotel pick up is available from select Hotels. Contact the Tour Operator directly, via email, to enquire.

• We expect that each traveller will have 1 x carry on size piece of luggage (22 inch) to be stored during the tour day. Please ensure you can load and unload your own luggage onto the vehicle/vehicle trailer. If you are travelling with excess or larger luggage, please discuss this with our reservations team via email ([email protected]) • Please make sure you bring a large refillable water bottle, closed sturdy shoes for walking. We recommend runners, sneakers, hiking boots and sensible clothes for outdoor conditions. Warm layers are a great idea! A waterproof rain jacket, just in case. • Wineglass Bay Lookout is a 45–60-minute uphill walk, then again back down the hill. • Swimmers and towel are optional, if you are keen for a swim in the beautiful location of Honeymoon Bay. • You will have an opportunity to stop enroute to the National Park and purchase a Bakery style lunch to grab sandwiches/wraps etc. Lunch will be in picnic area within the National Park.
