Pont Neuf
Despite the name, which literally means “New Bridge”, this is actually the oldest in the city, as it was completed in the 17th century. This famous landmark is located in the heart of Paris and it connects it to the Île de la Cité. You are going to admire a remarkable construction decorated with stone mascarons that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ile de la Cite
The Île de la Cité is one of the two natural islands on the River Seine (the other one is the Île Saint-Louis). This is the ancient heart of the city, the exact place where the Romans established the town of Lutetia, from which Paris originated. Here, visitors can admire the world famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie.
This palace was built as a residence for the royal family of France and seat of the Parliament, before being turned into a prison in the 14th century. The most illustrious prisoner detained here was Marie Antoinette, making this building a testimony to one of the most tumultuous periods in the history of the country: the French Revolution.
