This is the ancient heart of the city, the exact place where the Romans established the town of Lutetia, from which Paris originated. Here, visitors can admire the world famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie.
This palace was built as a residence for the royal family of France and seat of the Parliament, before being turned into a prison in the 14th century. The most illustrious prisoner detained here was Marie Antoinette, making this building a testimony to one of the most tumultuous periods in the history of the country: the French Revolution.
