Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of one of the oldest streets in Cairo, spanning approximately one kilometer. Muizz Street is celebrated for its exceptional concentration of medieval architectural marvels, making it home to the largest collection of medieval architectural treasures in the Islamic world. Named after Al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah, the fourth caliph of the Fatimid dynasty, the street extends from Bab Al-Futuh in the north to Bab Zuweila in the south. Beginning in 1997, the national government initiated extensive renovations, including the restoration of historical buildings, modern structures, and infrastructure, transforming the street into an exquisite "open-air museum."
Discover Bab al-Futuh (Conquest Gate), one of the few surviving gates in the Old City walls of Cairo. Built in 1087, this gate stands as a living testament to the city's storied history, strategically located at the northern end of Muizz Street. Constructed as part of the fortifications by Commander/Vizier Badr al-Jamali during the reign of Fatimid Imam/caliph Mustansir, Bab al-Futuh boasts rounded towers that functioned as formidable defenses, adorned with intricate vegetal and geometric motifs.
