Godley Head is a beautiful coastal track with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and also Lyttelton Harbour. It includes historic landmarks from WW2, an Antarctic cabin, and quaint little beaches to boot. The loop track is 8km / 5 miles and takes around 2.5 hours to walk, including a rest stop.
If you are short on time, this half-day guided walk is a great option. Both morning and afternoon walks are available, see the highlights and be back in Christchurch in time for lunch or dinner.

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and transport you to Taylors Mistake Beach, a beautiful black sand surf beach, with quaint little baches. There will be an opportunity to pick up hot drinks-to-go on the way. The drive is approximately 30 minutes. On arrival your guide will hand out backpacks, walking poles, water bottles, snacks, and prepare you for the walk.
The next 2.5 hours will be spent walking around Godley Head Loop Track, undoubtedly one of Christchurch's most beautiful hikes. The track is undulating and well-maintained. Sights include Scott's Hutt (an Antarctic Cabin), WW2 Gun emplacements, a penguin colony, and coastal views in all directions. You will return to Taylors Mistake with wonderful photos and memories of a great walk.
