This private shore excursion in Patmos offers a unique opportunity to explore the Grotto of the Apocalypse. The frescoes adorning the left of the entrance vividly depict the miracles and travels of St. John the Evangelist, chronicled by Prochorus, a supposed disciple.

On the right side, another fresco captures St. John's legendary battle with the priest of Apollo in Patmos. The journey continues with a visit to the Monastery of St. John and the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. 12th-century frescoes, hidden beneath 17th-century coverings, were revealed by the earthquake of 1956, offering a glimpse into the island's rich history. Conclude your excursion with a leisurely walk through the narrow streets of Chora in Patmos before transfer you back to the ship

Cave of Apocalypse

We arrive at the Cave of the Apocalypse. More specifically in the “Holy Cave of the Apocalypse”, which still exists, John the Evangelist spoke with God and He recited the holy book of Revelation that John recorded with the help of his student Prohoros. This book has caused admiration and awe among the faithful Christians who find it prophetic and come from the ends of the world to visit and worship this place. After this memorable tour, you’ll embark the car for the short ride back to the port.

Monastery of St. John

We continue our visit to the foot of the Monastery of St. John the Theologian. It looks like a Byzantine castle and was built like a fortress. Its presence is overwhelming. It was founded in 1088 by Ossios Christodoulos following a grant by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I. Komnenos. The monastery’s walls are over 15 meters high, its length from north to south is 53 meters and from east to west 70 meters. It seems even larger when you stand at the entrance, noticing its thick walls and heavily reinforced door.
