After 2.5 hours driving time we reach Salzburg. The landmark towers of the fortress over the roofs of the city of Mozart will be seen from far. The fortress is up to 250 meters long and 150 meters wide. This makes it the largest surviving fortification in Central Europe. The castle complex is located on the Festungsberg in the center of Salzburg. You can easily reach the Hohensalzburg Fortress with the fortress railway. Several viewing terraces provide an unforgettable view of the city and countryside. The oldest part of the castle has more than 900 years of history. The first part was completed around 1077. In the centuries that followed, the various owners of the fortress - the Archbishops of Salzburg - continued to build on the castle. The money for this came from salt mining, the "white gold" had made the Salzburg rulers rich men. We visit the fortress together with the fortress railway, an inclined elevator.
MOZART Birth Place, The Hagenauerhaus is a former residential building at Getreidegasse 9 in the left old town of Salzburg. The musician and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 on the third floor. On our walk through the old town, we pass the picturesque little streets like Getreidegasse and Goldgasse and visit the Salzburg Cathedral on residence square
Salzburg Cathedral dominates the picture of the old town with its striking, two-tower facade and the mighty structure. The baroque squares that surround it form a unique stage used by the Salzburg festival and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The baroque building impresses with its clear forms, its uniform decor and the luminous facade made of local marble. The Italian architect Santino Solari created the most important church building of that time north of the Alps, which was to influence architecture throughout Austria and southern Germany. The first cathedral building was inaugurated in 774 AD. We visit the interior of the cathedral and the Cathedral Square, called "Domplatz", with its sculptures and sights, the scene of the famous Salzburg Festival
