From the bazaar, continue to Ala-Too Square, the heart of the city, where you’ll see the Manas Monument, the changing of the guards, and surrounding government buildings. After the city tour, we will proceed to the Burana Tower, which is located about 80 kilometers east of Bishkek. The drive takes around 1.5 hours. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the Chuy Valley with its wide-open fields, small Kyrgyz villages, and distant mountain ranges. We’ll be traveling on a well-paved road, passing by local farms, roadside fruit sellers, and occasional flocks of sheep or cattle grazing near the highway. It’s a peaceful and picturesque route that gives you a glimpse of rural life in northern Kyrgyzstan.
Burana Tower
At Burana Tower, we’ll explore one of the most important historical sites in Kyrgyzstan. This ancient minaret, dating back to the 11th century, was part of the medieval city of Balasagun—once a thriving stop along the Great Silk Road. You’ll have a chance to climb the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the surrounding valley and mountains. Nearby, you’ll also see a small open-air museum featuring balbals (ancient Turkic stone warrior statues) and petroglyphs.
