Winemaking on this winery estate dates back to 1465 when Lorenzo de’Medici planted the original vines on the historic vineyards of the Podere Fortuna. Surrounded by scenic Tuscan hills, which unfold into a series of unique landscapes, the vineyards produce elegant wines while honoring the valley of Mugello. The region’s climate offers ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, with the contrast between day and night temperatures contributing to optimal ripening. Currently transitioning to organic production, the estate primarily cultivates Pinot Noir, along with a small acreage of Chardonnay. The vineyard follows biodynamic principles, treating the entire winemaking process as a unified entity. They protect the land by eliminating pesticides, instead using natural fertilizers such as recycled grape skins to nourish the soil. This approach not only enhances the quality of the fruit but also the wine itself.
The story of this winery is the story of the Bacci family, who moved to the "Monte" in 1985. Here Sergio, Giorgia, Enrico and Elena built their home and decided to plant a small vineyard for family use. Here, Monteprimo overlooks the vines, becoming a cherished backdrop for admiration. In 2016, Enrico and Elena, with the help of their children Silvia and Duccio, expanded their vision by planting two hectares of Pinot Noir, giving life to the Bacco del Monte company. Located in Vicchio, the birthplace of Giotto and Beato Angelico, the estate is not only steeped in artistic heritage but also benefits from the valley's unique topography and microclimate, characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night. This environment has made the cultivation of Pinot Noir increasingly important. The vineyard features a planting density of 5000 vines per hectare, trained using the Guyot system.
