Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple

Gangaramaya Vihara was founded in the late 19th century by Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera, a highly respected Buddhist monk. The temple started as a small hermitage on the banks of the Beira Lake but gradually expanded over the years to become the sprawling complex it is today. Gangaramaya Vihara is not only a place of worship but also a cultural center and learning institution. The temple complex is a harmonious blend of traditional Sri Lankan architecture and modern influences.
