The 150 years old Venus Gold Battery (Mill) crushed ore from the underground mines to extract the valuable gold. Through an amazing audio-visual experience and guided tour, discover how gold was processed during the colourful North Queensland goldrush.
On the outskirts of Charters Towers is the oldest and largest surviving Battery in Queensland – the Venus Gold Battery. Built in 1872, this crushing mill provided gold extraction facilities to miners for over a century. The huge “stampers” pounded day and night extracting the precious gold from quartz up until 1973.

You will make your own way to the meeting points
• Clients must be wearing flat-soled enclosed shoes. Thongs, sandals and high heels will not be permitted on tour. • We believe the weather really adds to the atmosphere of a tour. If there is rain, please bring an umbrella and or raincoat, and enjoy the tour. Tours will only be cancelled if conditions become dangerous - we will notify you in these circumstances close to the tour time. • There are no toilet facilities available at site. Please use facilities elsewhere before joining us at this site. • The consumption of alcohol and use of illegal substances are not permitted BEFORE or DURING a tour, any client believed to be intoxicated, inebriated, or otherwise under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will not be admitted at time of check-in. • Smoking/ vaping is not permitted at any time during our tours. If anyone forgets this, and starts smoking, they will be asked to immediately cease. If they do not, they will be asked to leave the tour. • Mobile and tablet devices are only to be used on tour whilst taking photographs or in an emergency. If you use your phone/ tablet for any other purpose during any of our tours, you will be asked to stop. Refusal to do so may result in you being asked to leave the tour.
