When you skip the line to step into the Borghese Gallery, the first thing to notice is the tranquility. Set in the former home of 17th-century cardinal Scipione Borghese, the gallery permits entrance only to a select number of visitors each day. Your pre-reserved passes give you a designated time slot for a look at this exclusive collection. Together with an expert art historian, you can see works by a number of renowned artists, such as Caravaggio's David and Goliath and St John the Baptist, Anthony Canova's Pauline Bonaparte, Raphael's The Deposition, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, The Rape of Proserpina, and David. Many of the works were commissioned specifically for this space, and the collection offers one of the most incredible experiences for lovers of art in Rome.
