You will have a full immersion experience, getting into the narrative and historical context of a book: : The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon, by Richard Zimler.
The walking tour starts at the Little Judiaria (jewish ghetto) in Alfama, through the Great Judiaria, or Small Jerusalem, finishing at the Rossio square to witness the terrible pogrom in 1506.
You will visit the ancient city buried under our feet, that you can only see if you close your eyes.
A tour for the curious traveler tempted by something special and alternative to the mass tourism attractions.
Although the tour is accessible to most people, you will find narrow streets, bumpy paving and stairs in some places, which makes it more difficult if you use a wheelchair or baby trolley and may not be able to approach certain spots.
In Alfama was the ancient Small Jewish Quarter in Lisbon - Judiaria Pequena. Here we are going to identify the places mentioned in the book: the Synagoghe, the jewish baths, and the characters' houses. Readings of the book will help us imagine the place as 500 years ago.
Following the book characters and plot, here we identify the Great Jewish Quarter (Grande Judiaria ou Pequema Jerusalém) with its sumptuous buildings - the synagogue, but also the school, the hospital and the splendid shops. Readings of the book will take us there, to the ancient Lisbon.
We will walk through the Great Judiaria, or Small Jerusalem, imagining it under our feet, while stoping for some readings of the book - there's action spotted here.
