The first stop in Takayama is Hida Kokubunji Temple. It is the only three-storied pagoda in Hida area. You can also see a 1,250-year-old great ginkgo tree on the temple ground. Besides, you can buy fresh vegetables, fruits, and the traditional product of Takayama in Miyagawa Asaichi, one of the most famous morning markets in Japan. In Takayama Jinya, you have an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the Edo governor here. The next stop is Kusakabe folk museum. It is registered as a National Important Cultural Property, and you can learn how a townhouse of the Edo period was built. In the old town of Takayama, many of the streets and buildings from the Edo period, when the town flourished as a prosperous merchant town, remain.
