Itinerary

Carlyle House

Your tour will begin with a private tour of the interior of Carlyle House given by your personal guide to Old Town Alexandria. You will see a restored colonial mansion house that dates back to the founding of Alexandria. The history of the house and its occupants winds through the most important events in American History: The American Revolution; the founding of Washington, DC; the Civil War; World War I & II; and even the bicentennial in 1976. There will be an opportunity to see period fashions and even glimpse how the mansion house was constructed, renovated and eventually restored. Restrooms and a gift shop are available on the property and time will be allotted for their use.

Gadsby's Tavern Museum

After a stroll along Cameron Street to see some of the historic town houses on what used to the "Main Street" of town, your guide will finish your tour at Gadsby's Tavern. The tavern, once a five star hotel, is now a part of the City of Alexandria's historic sites. It is a wonderful place to wrap up the story of Alexandria's colonial history and to understand its place in the renaissance of the City of Alexandria

Alexandria City Hall & Market Square

The center of the original Old Town, the Square and the area surrounding it are home to such seminal events as the welcoming of George Washington, President-elect, leaving for New York for his swearing in, a local clash between the North and South that created martyrs on both sides, and gathering places for generations of Virginians to influence the course of the nation.
