Vatican Museums
With over nine miles of galleries it is difficult to gain a real appreciation of all the treasures that the Vatican has to offer. In the company of a very knowledgeable English-speaking guide we will ensure you see the highlights but also get to see some of the wonderful artwork that is generally overlooked. One of the stops on this extended tour is however the Borgia Apartments. In the 15th century these rooms were where the Spanish cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI and his family lived. You will be shown some exceptional family portraits and be told something of the history behind the paintings’ religious content. This papal family has become infamous over the centuries; there are many stories and secrets to be told about the Pope and his beautiful daughter Lucretia and son Cesare.
Stanze di Raffaello
One of the most enchanting stops on the tour is Raphael’s Rooms. These rooms were decorated for Pope Julius II, and house some of Raphael’s greatest works, the Parnassus and The School of Athens.
Sistine Chapel
As there is no talking allowed in the Sistine Chapel, before entering your guide will discuss the works of art you will see inside, including the mesmerising frescoes by Michelangelo, Botticelli and others on the walls and ceiling. Your guide will also share captivating anecdotes about the chapel, which is still in use today - as the setting for the papal election – Conclave.

- DRESS CODE: At the Vatican and in general in all the Roman churches and Synagogues dress code for both men and women requires shoulders and knees to be covered. Shorts and skirts are fine, but below knees. Do not bring large items (e.g. large bags, backpacks, long umbrellas…) on tour because they are not permitted in the Vatican Museums.
- READ CAREFULLY: Because of the growing popularity of the current pope Francis and his intense activity in organising mass events in the Vatican some areas might get closed last minute without previous notice. This has already happened this year and can happen again during you Vatican tour. In case of such events our tour guide will provide you with a valuable alternative focusing the tour inside the Vatican museums.
