In keeping with many of great lodges built under the direction of the National Park Service, the historic Lake McDonald Lodge has a European Swiss chalet style, crossed with a rustic hunting lodge - though that seems a contradiction with Park values today. The lobby houses taxidermy collections of mountain animals on its walls. Activities, horseback rides and lake cruises all depart from the lodge.
