Immerse yourself in Morocco's rich tradition of rug weaving and enjoy our half-day workshop to experience, hands on, this ancient craft. Working side-by-side with one of our master weavers you will learn to thread up and weave on a simple wooden frame loom. You will be introduced to traditional Amazigh (Berber) symbols as used by the weavers in their carpets and shown how to incorporate one of these into your very own design. Using our locally, handspun wool which has been dyed using the Henna plant at our own dyeing atelier you will craft your own rug swatch using flat weave techniques and the unique Berber knot. This knot can be found nowhere else in the world but in the Atlas Mountains and we are unique in Morocco to weave our rugs using this knot. At the end of the workshop you will cut the work off the loom to take with you. You also have the option to purchase the frame loom for a small additional cost and take it away with you to continue weaving at your leisure.
