The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City is a church of the Italian High Renaissance located in Vatican City, an independent microstate enclaved within the city of Rome, Italy.

Catacombs of Saint Callixtus

The Catacombs of Callixtus (also known as the Cemetery of Callixtus) is one of the Catacombs of Rome on the Appian Way, most notable for containing the Crypt of the Popes, which once contained the tombs of several popes from the 2nd to 4th centuries. The catacomb visited may vary depending on availability and can be San Calisto, San Sebastian, or Santa Domitilla Catacombs.

  • To reach the catacombs from Termini Station, take Metro B (direction Laurentina), stop at Circo Massimo, then take the bus n. 118 (direction Appia/Villa Dei Quintili) to the Catacombs of San Callisto stop. The catacomb visited may vary depending on availability.
  • Once you arrive at Largo del Colonnato, at the corner with Via di Porta Angelica, ask the official staff of the Basilica for directions to the fast-track line for those with reservations. Please ensure you have the reservation voucher, which will be sent to you at least 2 days prior to your visit.

Upon arrival at the basilica entrance at Largo del Colonnato, please make sure to join the reserved line for those with tickets and present your entry voucher at the entrance. At St. Peter’s Basilica, you must show both your ticket and an official ID. Please note that the wait time for security checks at the Basilica may range from 10 to 60 minutes. The order of the visits may vary depending on availability or unforeseen events. CATACOMBS At the Catacombs, please show your voucher at the ticket office 15 minutes before the tour starts. The Catacombs you will visit can be: San Callisto Catacombs, Via Appia Antica, 110/126 or San Sebastiano Catacombs, Via Appia Antica, 136 or Santa Domitilla Catacombs, Via delle Sette Chiese, 282 To reach the Catacombs from Termini Station: Take Metro Line A (direction Anagnina) to San Giovanni, then bus 218 (direction Ardeatina) to the Fosse Ardeatine stop. The entrance to the Catacombs will be directly ahead. Alternatively, take Metro Line B (direction Laurentina) to Circo Massimo, then bus 118 (direction Appia/Villa Dei Quintili) to the Catacombs of San Callisto stop. Dress Code For both St. Peter's Basilica and the Catacombs, shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. Unpredictable Closures If the Basilica or the Catacombs are closed due to unpredictable or religious events, one or both visits can be rescheduled, or you will receive a partial or full refund.
