Visit the small cocoa manufacture in the countryside made of cocoa plantations. The best thing about the place is that is local and authentic - you can see here every step of the production, apart of the rich explanation and tasting. So different from the other factories around Puerto Plata, letting you explore the whole building and showing everything. If you like their organic products made from cocoa you can buy them on the spot. By visiting the place you support local community as it's project of the local women.
Let's have a dominican coffee in house of our local host. Here you'll see the typical dominican house in the countryside and will taste a famous dominican coffee made on fire. For that we'll use the traditional coffee maker. Around the house grow cocoa trees and tropical fruits. Although our host and his family don't speak any foreign language, you'll feel as in family. It's a long-term tradition of dominican hospitality.
From the surroundings of Puerto Plata we will continue to Santiago de los Caballeros - Dominican Republic second largest city. Here you can experience the real local market, with fruits and vegetables, natural medicine stands, religious and voo doo artefacts sellers.. You can observe dominican every day life. From the market we'll walk towards the main square and cathedral. Santiago de los Caballeros was founded in XV century, in times of the first Spanish settlers. Have a glance from the city's best view point - the hill with the Monument for the Heroes of the Restauration War. And just after we invite you for a typical dominican lunch - delicious rice and beans, meat (or vegetarian option) and salad.
